The proposed redevelopment of Newcastle Racecourse at High Gosforth Park comprising of replacement of the existing turf flat track with an all-weather track, associated improvements to trackside facilities, and the erection of 14 new 4-bed homes.
The change to an All Weather Track and upgrading of the racecourse facilities would enable Newcastle Racecourse to host the prestigious ARC All-Weather Championship racing programme.
S.A.J prepared a Transport Statement to assess the transport related impacts of an increase in the number of racing fixtures on the local and strategic road network, including nearby A1 North Brunton interchange.
The TS included a review of the anticipated attendances associated with 45 additional fixtures split between weekday afternoon, weekday twilight, and Friday/Saturday evening fixtures.
The application received support from highways officers at Newcastle City Council, North Tyneside Council (neighbouring authority), and Highways England offered no objections to the development proposals, contributing to the proposals receiving planning approval.
All weather racing is due to begin at Newcastle Racecourse in Summer 2016.
