As we continue to grow, we are seeking experienced and motivated individuals to join our passionate team of professionals to fulfil the roles of a Principal Transport Planner and a Senior Transport Planner.

The roles are advertised as full-time positions and based out of the Newcastle upon Tyne office.  However, we are open to discussing alternative arrangements to suit life-style choices, including location bases elsewhere in the UK.

This is an exciting opportunity aimed at candidates who are self-motivated and are confident that they can contribute to the continued development of the Company.

Training

SAJ Transport Consultants is one of the few independent transport consultants with a formal training scheme, including a qualified mentor for your professional
development. All our professional staff are members of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT).

Principal Transport Planner (2026/001)

What You’ll Do

* Lead Transport Assessments, Statements & Travel Plans

* Oversee modelling in ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig (TRANSYT and AIMSUN a bonus!)

* Provide technical oversight & QA on deliverables

* Manage client relationships & support business development

* Mentor junior planners & shape our growing team

* Engage with stakeholders and planning authorities

What we are looking for

* 7+ years’ experience in transport planning consultancy

* Expert knowledge of transport policy, guidance & planning process

* Strong skills in modelling software in TRICS, ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig (TRANSYT and AIMSUN a bonus!)

* Excellent communication & report writing

* Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or related field

* Deliver junction modelling in ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig (TRANSYT and AIMSUN a bonus!)

* Assess site accessibility by walking, cycling & public transport

* Engage with clients, local authorities & multidisciplinary teams

* Support junior staff & contribute to business growth

What we are looking for

* 4–5+ years’ experience in a transport planning consultancy

* Proficient in TRICS, ARCADY, PICADY, LinSig (TRANSYT and AIMSUN a bonus!)

* Strong report writing, communication & project management skills

* Passionate about sustainable transport & urban mobility

* Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or related field
